Free multi-catalog lens search tool launched

by | optical engineering, optics

Last week, we announced the launch of a free lens search tool for optical engineers.  It is available at www.opticsforhire.com/lens-search

The searchable database allows engineers working in robotics, machine vision, industrial, and security industries to search multiple lens suppliers and thousands of off-the-shelf lenses.

“I wouldn’t waste an afternoon searching eight different airlines for a business flight, and I didn’t want our team to burn engineering hours searching dozens of different catalogs all with different formats and search criteria” said Optics for Hire Founder John Ellis. “So we built this database for our own use and decided to make it free to everyone”, he added.

Users can search based on sensor size, lens mount, F#, and focal length and see details on lens field of view, object distance, wavelength range, lens size, as well as links to the technical details on the suppliers’ website.  Over 2000 lenses from six leading industrial lens catalogs are currently included in the database.
